This show raises money for Food 2 Kids, a partnership between the Junior League of Athens and the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia that provides sacks of food for kids who might not have enough to eat during the weekend. Bands will be Kite to the Moon, Athens’ funky psychedelic act; Madison County rockers Holman Autry Band; and Betsy Franck & the Bare Knuckle Band, a local act that combines bluesy guitars, rock ’n’ roll drums and gospel-inspired vocals. $10; $12 for under 21. 25th annual Insect Zoo
10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, 426 Biological Sciences Building, University of Georgia
Enjoy both alive and pinned (pinned=dead, we’re hoping) insects and arthropods from Georgia and abroad. In what is sure to be the highlight of all Athens’ events this week, there will be a Guinness World Records cricket-spitting contest at 1 p.m. Other fun includes a roach race, chocolate-covered crickets and mealworm cookies.
